Physical Description:

Occupying approximately one half block adjacent to a residential neighborhood, this one-story brick school has a flat roof and is faced with common bond brick. The building is currently used for administrative purposes by the school district. The entry façade exhibits large classroom windows typical of this generation of school and the entrance is flanked by a large panel of decorative two color skintled brickwork to the south of the doors. A cornerstone with the date "1950" is at the south corner. A slightly higher brick volume can be seen along the northeast side of the massing. The flat roof overhangs all areas except the higher mass and has wood soffit and fascia with a metal gravel stop. Steel sash windows were used throughout although some of the larger classroom windows have been recently infilled with brick in combination with vinyl-clad casement and awning windows. A large brick chimney occurs at the northeast wall. The substructure is concrete; a small CMU addition has been attached to the north side of the high volume.

Although compatible with the residential neighborhood, this structure does not qualify for register listing under Criteria C.

Classification: contemporary architecture

Integrity: Basically original; some window openings have been filled in or modified. The structure occupies its original site. This building does speak to a specific generation of school occupancy that architects would recognize because of construction type, placement of openings, etc. The masonry character is compatible with both commercial and residential segments of the community.
